This is a fun and simple game that all ages can play. It does require some preparation ahead of time and you may have to help younger kids read some of the clues. I started by hiding a teddy bear in the house. I chose the broom closet because it was safe and didn't involve any climbing or other dangerous activities. Then I made clues using post-it notes and attached the first one to my little girl's plush poodle. The first clue leads to the next clue and so forth until the teddy bear is found. As a final twist, I added a post-it note clue to the teddy bear itself which led to some sugar cookies shaped like teddy bears that I purchased at the local bakery. The Game of Cribbage and the Many Ways it Can Be Played With More Than Two Players

It is always a good sign when new versions of something pop up all over in the world. Take Cribbage for instance - you may know that there are at least four other popular versions of this 400 year old game. The four versions were all created over the past 20 - 40 years, which means that the original version has been played as it was intended for at least 360 years.

The original game was created by Sir John Suckling in the early 17th Century. One version, Kings Cribbage, was created by a company named Cococo Games, and another, CrossCribb was created by a small toy store in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Other versions of Cribbage have started popping up in recent times. They may not be as popular or well known as Kings Cribbage, CrossCribb or even Cribbage Solitaire, but they are a way for more than 2 people to play and enjoy Cribbage at the same time. Many of the versions outlined below allow more than 2 players to participate simultaneously, and were developed for families to play the game together.

The game of Cutthroat Cribbage for Three players
With this version you will need to have a three track Cribbage game board. Unlike the original game, everyone in the Cutthroat version has to insert pegs for themselves every time they score a point. Each of the three players will need to cut the deck to determine the dealer. In this version, as with all others, the player with the lowest card is the dealer, and Ace as normal acts as the lowest card in the deck. The dealer will then deal each player five cards and then one to the crib. Each player will then contribute one card to the crib leaving themselves, and the crib with four cards. Play continues as usual to the left and the first player to reach 121 points is the winner of the game.

How to Play Captain Cribbage
This version of Cribbage is also developed for three players, as it sets one player up against two others. You will need a two track game board for this version of the game. The lone player, known as the Captain, will start playing with his scoring peg inserted in the 60th space on the Cribbage board. The other two players, acting as a team, will start their scoring in the normal position. The team members can play to set each other up to get more points, as play still goes to the left of the table. The team must reach 121 points before the captain reaches 61 for a win.

What you need to know about Doubles Cribbage for Four players
The game of Doubles Cribbage can be played on either a two track Cribbage board or a four track Cribbage board. This game is played with the same rules as CrossCribb. Two players will play in a team and each member of the team will play opposite a member of the other team.

Organizing Tips to Tame the Toy Room

If you've got kids, you've got toys. Tired of tripping over dolls, trucks, and blocks? Here are some tips on how to organize the toys so that they don't take over your home.

Most parents admit that their kids have too many toys, so the first step is to pare down. When purging toys, divide and conquer by sorting into 3 piles:

1. Damaged: toys that are broken or missing parts (these will be tossed)
2. Outcasts: toys that the kids have outgrown or never really played with in the first place (these will be sent to charity)

3. Favorites: toys that are enjoyed on a regular basis (these stay)

When taking toys to charity, get your children involved. Once they see the value in giving to those less fortunate, they may be more willing to let go.

Toy Storage Tips:

o Having too many toys in the playroom overwhelms kids just as much as parents. You can cut down on excess toys by rotating them. Get a large plastic storage container, label it 'toy library' and place a selection of toys inside it. Put the lid on the container and store it in an out-of-the way place for several months. Every so often, bring out the toy library and exchange the stored toys for other toys that the kids are bored with. The old toys will seem new again and engage the child's interest.

o Organize the toy room in zones: The dress-up zone, the dolls zone, the play kitchen zone, the craft zone, the building block zone, etc. This is the model used to keep kindergarten classrooms organized.

o When it comes to storing toys, traditional wooden toy chests are not very useful. Most kids empty them out and climb in or small toys get all tangled up, damaged and forgotten.

o Use small, clear, open plastic bins (no lids) on shelves and sort toys into similar categories to make finding and tidying up a breeze. Label them with pictures if your child is too young to read. Small, lightweight containers with handles are easier to pull off the shelf.

o Make sure shelves are low (no more than 3 shelves high) so kids can reach their favorite toys. Secure shelving to the wall with brackets to avoid tipping.

o For older children, use plastic freezer bags that zip up to keep small game pieces or puzzle pieces together. (Small children may put the bags over their heads, which could pose a hazard).

o Use hooks or clothing trees to hang dress-up clothes.

o A colourful tackle box with dividers is an ideal way to store small doll accessories on the top and favorite Barbie's on the bottom. Or, use it for Lego kits. Its portability is an added bonus when visiting grandparents or sleeping over at a friend's house.

o Children's books usually don't have spines, so placing them on a bookshelf makes locating favorite books difficult. Solve this problem by storing books in plastic bins with the title of the books facing front.

Tips to Maintain a Tidy Toy Room:

o To keep the toy room tidy, have a 15-minute clean-up time everyday and explain to kids that the alternative is spending a whole Saturday cleaning up. Use a timer and put on some of their favorite music to add an element of novelty.

o Do your part to cut down on toy clutter. Loot bags brought home from birthday parties are usually big clutter culprits. For your child's birthday parties, instead of handing out dollar store items that will end up on the floor, start a trend by giving $5. Gift cards from movie rental or book stores.

o When purchasing toys, choose those that stimulate imagination and creativity so children don't lose interest. Examples: black board, art supplies and paper, instruments, dress-up clothes.

o Request that family members and friends give your children the gift of an experience instead of a toy. This includes taking them to an amusement park, a movie, a concert, or paying for some music or sports lessons.

Safety Precautions on Kids Riding Toys

Admittedly, kids' riding toys require little by way of safety gear since these are not built for fast speed, all terrains, and long distances. The most speed that pedal cars can achieve is how fast your little child's legs can pump, which can be a brisk walk on your part. And often only within the confines of the neighborhood before the little legs demand a rest! However, there are still safety precautions you must take before actually letting your child ride on his or her pedal car.

The Pedal Car

Kids' riding toys do suffer from wear and tear despite the best intentions of the manufacturer. You have to check for exposed sharp edges and cutting points especially on the pedal car's seats, dashboard, steering wheel, and pedals. Since these are the most used parts, these are also the most vulnerable to wear and tear.

You also need to check for broken parts that will need replacement immediately. Otherwise, you should hide kids' riding toys in a safe place instead of exposing your children to avoidable dangers brought by choking and strangulation hazards.

Also, you have to be updated on the recalls issued by manufacturers and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. These recalls often pertain to products with high lead contents, choking and strangulation hazards, and other safety risks. There have been instances when kids' riding toys are recalled for lead poisoning hazards.

The Terrain

Your children should only be permitted to ride their pedal cars and battery powered cars in flat terrain. Your children should not ride on rocky paths and muddy lanes, climb hills no matter how little they seem, and zoom down slopes no matter how shallow they look. You can tell them that their pedal cars are not meant for those areas. Instead, encourage them to ride within the yard and only in the sidewalk. Or better yet, take them to the park where there are lots of open spaces.

More importantly, never allow your children to ride near the garage, near automobiles and near swimming pools. If they disobey these commands, you should restrict the use of their kids' riding toys until they have learned the importance of the rule.

The Clothing

You should dress you children in right clothing while riding their pedal cars. Opt for shoes with Velcro fastenings and clothes with button fasteners. Shoelaces, drawstrings, and ribbons can get caught in the pedal cars, which can cause injuries.

The Rules

Aside from the above mentioned safety precautions, you also need to set rules on the use of pedal cars. For example, if the pedal car only accommodates one kid, then only one kid should ride it. If the pedal car is for a certain age bracket, then only specific children should be allowed to ride it.

You should also teach your children basic traffic rules like they should not bump into mommy and daddy and their siblings, including the pets and the furniture. In this way, you are teaching them safety on the road, both for them and for those whom they pass.
